5 Ingredients Your Beard Oil Should Contain
You take care of your beard. You stroke it, comb it, wash it and get lost in thought as you twirl your fingers through it's wiry mane. It wasn't until you got a beard that you finally understood why people like cats. Cats are beards with legs that people who can't grow beards get to fill that gap in their life.
But you, oh bearded one, know the true value of your mug-rug. You know it needs your full attention to groom and keep under control, so of course you are looking for the best quality beard oil! But do you know what to look for in a beard oil?
Pronounced “ho-ho-bah” (So you can feel all fancy around your fancy friends), Jojoba oil isn’t actually an oil, it is a liquid wax ester. It is extracted from jojoba seeds and was used by the Native Americans to treat wounds. Certified organic, natural, unrefined jojoba oil is non-allergenic and non-comedogenic (it doesn’t block pores).
Jojoba Oil doesn't contain Triglycerides so it won’t go off like a mad frog in a sock. (It won’t go rancid) In beard oils, Jojoba oil moisturises, strengthens and shapes your beard while decreasing the chance of breakage. It also curbs 'beard itch' as the oil is very similar to the oil our skin produces.
If you find Jojoba oil in your beard oil, you can expect your beard to reflect how strong, yet soft you are.
Argan oil (or Moroccan oil) is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree and is sometimes referred to as ‘Liquid Gold’ due to its numerous health benefits. It contains a high amount of fatty acids and Vitamin E which make it perfectly suited for skin and hair. It absorbs easily and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling, which no-one likes in their beard.
Argan oil is able to repair damaged follicles, add a natural shine to hair and isn’t greasy. It is a great skin moisturiser and helps promote healthy face-mane growth. Argan oil also helps contain the dreaded 'beard itch', which no-one has the time for.
No-one likes biting into a grape and tasting the bitter crunch of the seed, so it’s awesome that they have at least one good use. You know, apart from making more grapes. Which are sometimes used to make wine, which is good.
Grapeseed oil is a light oil that helps moisturise your beard and face, prevent split ends, strengthens the hair and promotes a natural shine. FUN FACT! It also helps stop hair loss, so smack it on your head every now and again for good measure.
Sweet Almond Oil:
Sweet Almond Oil is processed from you guessed it, almonds. 10 points for Gryffindor.
Sweet almond oil is an awesome carrier oil, which means it blends well with essential oils and is found in most beard oils because of this. It also has many benefits for your beard such as promoting growth, softening facial hair, reducing beard dandruff and conditioning your beard.
Organic, natural essential oils
This is the stuff that makes it smell all manly. Your beard oil should contain a few drops of essential oils to make it smell manly, but also add in some health benefits depending on the essential oil. Cedarwood and peppermint are great antiseptics, lemon myrtle is great at clearing blocked noses and clove is known to be an aphrodisiac (who thought Spicy Pirate could be any more spicy, eh? ;) ;) ;) )
Basically, if you are going to use beard oil (which you should!), make sure that ALL the parts are derived from natural sources. Natural oils are great oils, so there is no point skimping out on quality and settling for anything less than the best for your beard.
